Creative Space

Creative space can be what you make it. Sometimes it’s a walk to a quiet bench with a view where it’s you and a notebook. Leave the phone behind, be in nature with your thoughts. If you are struggling with a work problem, or need a great idea, try this simple exercise, it might spark your next success.

Take 30 minutes of of your day to connect with yourself and your innate creativity. Get comfortable, find a place to be where there are no distractions, can be the library, the beach, your bedroom. Turn off the phone. Identify the thing you want to focus on, it doesn’t matter what it is. Spend the first 5 minutes focusing on your breath to calm your inner world. Let any thoughts drift through your mind like clouds through the sky. Consider your issue – roll it around your head – examine it from all sides. Take out your notebook and write down your thoughts. If your attention drifts, bring it back to your breath or the issue. After about 20 minutes, stop, get up and shake out your body. If you have any further thoughts, jot them down. Move on with your day. Later, review your notes, hopefully your creative session with yourself with bear some fruit. If not, try it again, and then again, until taking this time becomes a habit.
